Disasterous
By Nick M. W.
After a loss, I need a couple of days to let everything settle and clear my head of any emotionally charged thoughts. I got whooped in Week 1 of this 2022 AGS campaign by 97 points. Hurts to write that. Brings me right back to that hollow pit of despair and regret from past fantasy football seasons, a feeling I’m too familiar with. That feeling usually precedes a tidal wave of anxiety carrying the debris of my post-season, broken to bits.
As the NFL moves into its second week, I’m able to shift gears and look forward to the next opportunity to put up a “W”. I definitely need one right now to help me avoid the same hole I fell into last season. There are some interesting matchups for guys on my roster, namely the TNF game tonight between the Chargers and the Chiefs (I’m looking at you Austin Eckler and Mike Williams). The Broncos have the Texans at home in what should (hopefully) be a dominating win. My hope is that Nate Hackett lets Javonte Williams have some more carries. When they yell, “Let’s ride!” I hope it’s on Javonte’s back. I’m also curious, and a little worried, to see how the Packers perform against the Bears, specifically A-A-Ron Rodgers and A-A-Ron Jones. Other than ⅔ of my team needing to step up considerably to get me my first win of the season, it should be a fun Week 2.
Biggest surprise of the week.
Justin Herbert spread the ball around to everyone except for Mike Williams in the Charger win over my Raiders. That was another surprise from last week. I thought the Raiders could pull off an upset, and I didn’t think they would score fewer than 50 points combined. Perhaps one of these scenarios was never going to happen.
I’m not surprised by any of the wins this week. Those six teams would all be in the playoffs if the season ended today, but it’s only been one week.
What disappointed you the most about your team this week?
I mentioned most of the disappointments this week in the opening. A bunch of dudes just didn’t show up. I hope that’s actually the case. I believe that’s the case because if it’s not, then I’ll need to meditate and hold council with the FFB gods.
I started 0 - 2 last season before I went on a 6-game winning streak that led to a deep playoff run, but I don’t want to mess around like that and have to dig myself out of a hole.
What was the most extreme reaction you had to losing this week?
I didn’t have an extreme reaction. I was just extremely disappointed. Anyone who started A-Rod, or Austin Eckler, or Mike Williams, or Aaron Jones knows how I feel. It’s only Week 1, though. Wild shit happens. There was a tie. The Bears beat the 49ers in a monsoon. Russ Wilson is sidelined on the final play of the game, his coach figuring they have a better shot of kicking a 64-yard field goal than trying to gain 5 yards with the ball in Russ’s hands.
Predictions/Thoughts for your Week 2 matchup?
I think we see a lot of Week 1 flops turn it around this week, including the aforementioned duds on my roster. Derek Henry is going to bounce back. Derek Carr is going to redeem himself at home against a weak Cardinals defense. I think some of the other guys that had career days, like Justin Jefferson, will come down a notch or two. I don’t think Mahomes will drop 45 or whatever it was in your league he put up last week. I don’t think Saquon will do what he did, and I think Rebel Scum will come away with a win.
